Clergy
Canon Angela Townshend is our Priest-in-Charge. Angela was born and brought up here in
Bath, but only began her ministry at Christ Church in November 2011. She is married to Ned with four children and two step children, and lots of grandchildren!
Angela taught in Bristol, served with the Church Mission Society in Hong Kong and trained as a therapist. She returned to full time work as Joint Warden of Leasow House and Tutor at Crowther Hall (the CMS training college in Selly Oak, Birmingham). She lectured in Women’s Leadership and Counselling at Westhill College. She was ordained in 1995 and served her title at St James, Hill and was then Vicar of St Paul’s Hamstead, both in the Birmingham Diocese. For six years she was Residentiary Canon at Guildford Cathedral.
We are also fortunate to have two other priests in our congregation, who also help to lead services at Christ Church.

Reverend Cliff Burrows has given many years’ dedicated service to Christ Church as a non-stipendiary minister, in addition to his academic role in the Faculty of Engineering and Design at the University of Bath. He retired from his official role as Christ Church’s Assistant Priest‑in‑Charge at Easter 2010, but he has the Bishop’s Permission to Officiate and continues to be very supportive.
Prebendary Angela Berners-Wilson is University Chaplain at the University of Bath, and we are very fortunate that since taking up that position she and her husband Andrew have made Christ Church their “home” church. She regularly preaches and presides at Christ Church, and we greatly value her presence as part of our community.
