Accessibility
We think it’s important that as many people as possible can access Christ Church and our services. We have improved our accessibility over the last few years and have plans to make further changes.
Main Church Building
Access via steps: the main church door (under the tower) is accessed by 5 steps. There is a handrail on the right-hand side.

Step-free access to the church is via the choir vestry, which is the red door on the far left-hand side as you face the main door. Unfortunately, we cannot always leave this door unlocked, so we suggest getting in touch in advance if possible. The narrowest point on this route into the church is 79cm (31 inches) wide.

Parking: we have one marked blue badge parking space immediately outside the step-free door. We are happy to reserve further parking or drop-off spaces if needed – please get in touch.

Wheelchairs and mobility scooters: people using wheelchairs mobility scooters are most welcome at all times.

Vision-impaired visitors: large print orders of service and other documents are available.

Induction loop: the church is equipped with a hearing loop system that covers the nave area. This is used at all services for spoken words.

The Eucharist is distributed from the chancel step, without the need to climb steps. Alternatively, we can bring bread and wine to you in your seat - please let a churchwarden or sidesperson know.

Assistance dogs: Guide dogs, hearing dogs and assistance dogs are welcome at Christ Church at all times.

Accessible toilet: we have a right-hand transfer accessible toilet cubicle with level access via the main porch of the church. This is fully compliant with the latest building regulation requirements (‘Approved Document M’). The nearest Changing Places facilities are located in the Southgate Shopping Centre.

Access to the chancel and galleries: step-free access is not possible to these areas at the moment. We have plans to build a ramp to allow access to the chancel.

The red door provides step-free access (the main entrance can been seen on the far right). The car is parked in the blue badge parking space.
The Eucharist is distributed from the communion rail with people either kneeling or standing in front of this step, which can be approached on the level.
These photos show the level route to approach our accessible toilet from the main part of the church.
Lower Mews Building
The main door has a small step, which is 6cm (2.5 inches) high. This door is 79cm (31 inches) wide. All other doorways in the Lower Mews are wider than this.

Parking: see details above. Our blue badge parking space is about 10 metres from the main door into the Lower Mews.

Wheelchairs and mobility scooters: people using wheelchairs mobility scooters are most welcome at all times.

Assistance dogs: Guide dogs, hearing dogs and assistance dogs are welcome in the Lower Mews at all times.

Accessible toilet: we have a right-hand transfer accessible toilet cubicle with level access from the rest of the Lower Mews. The nearest Changing Places facilities are located in the Southgate Shopping Centre.
