Young Organists' Day

An inspiring and supportive day of tuition and performance.

Christ Church is delighted to host a Young Organists’ Day for aspiring players aged 13–18.

This day offers a valuable opportunity for young organists to develop their playing through a supportive and inspiring day of tuition, culminating in an informal public performance.

The day will include a masterclass, led by acclaimed concert organist Rachel Mahon (Director of Music, Coventry Cathedral). Each participant will receive a dedicated 30-minute session at the console, working in detail on a prepared piece.

In the afternoon, participants will perform in a relaxed showcase concert as part of Christ Church’s autumn concert series, sharing their work with an audience of family, friends, and members of the Christ Church community.

Who is it for?

The day is aimed at young organists aged 13–18, working at around a Grade 5–8 standard (or equivalent). We welcome applications from players who are keen to develop their technique, musical understanding, and confidence in performance.

What to prepare

Participants should prepare one or two pieces of their choice, totalling no more than 8–9 minutes of music, which will be worked on during the masterclass and performed in the afternoon.

The instrument

The course will take place on the three-manual organ at Christ Church, Bath (console pictured). Registered participants will receive full details of the instrument in advance, and there will be an opportunity to book practice time on the organ ahead of the day.

Cost

£50 per participant, including a light lunch and refreshments throughout the day. A limited number of observer places may also be available at a reduced cost.

We are keen to make this day accessible to all and as such bursaries are available for those for whom the fee would be a barrier to attendance.
